New Olympus foot controls / pedals the RS31H and RS27H

The new RS31H and RS27H foot switches offer users a wealth of versatile options. Both models support the individual assignment of multimedia keys and hot-key combinations. Besides operation together with Olympus Dictation Management Software (ODMS), these foot switches can also be freely used independently to thereby open up a whole new world of deployment potential. For example, these new models can be used to control web browser applications and practically all third-party software, such as video and audio editing programs or gaming software. Their ergonomic design maximizes ease of use: a gentle tap on the respective pedal is all that is required for fast forward, rewind, play or stop. In addition, the devices incorporate an anti-slip base to ensure the foot switch remains secure and stable at all times, preventing it from slipping out from under the foot.
The RS31H foot switch is equipped with four pedals, which can be assigned individually to commands such as fast forward, rewind, play and stop. This leaves the hands free, allowing the user to concentrate entirely on transcription. Meanwhile, the RS27H foot switch features three pedals and, like the RS31H, is designed for long-term use, thanks to its high-quality finish.

Grundig Business Systems presents its new pushbutton dictation microphone - Digta SonicMic 3

NEW - Digta SonicMic 3

Grundig Business Systems (GBS) has launched new USB dictation microphones with pushbutton controls: the Digta SonicMic 3 and the Digta SonicMic 3 Classic. These devices have been optimized for stationary dictation and speech recognition. The microphones have an interface with the DigtaSoft Voice, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and Dragon Medical 360 I Direct speech recognition applications. Nuance, the leading provider of speech recognition solutions, has already tested both microphones and given them the highest rating – six stars – for recognition precision with Dragon. “This is evidence that our products deliver first-class results in this area,” says GBS Managing Director Roland Hollstein.

He explains that the exceptional speech intelligibility is primarily due to the frequency-optimized positioning of the microphone capsules. “But the specially shaped microphone aperture, which has been optimized for speech recognition, also contributes to the excellent recording quality,” Hollstein continues. The polished button surfaces also prevent touch noise. Both microphones make it unnecessary to learn the most important speech recognition commands because the software is controlled with minimal movements of the thumb.

Digta SonicMic 3 with proven trackpadThe function buttons can be programmed according to the user’s needs with a clearly organized configuration tool. For instance, the speech recognition commands could be activated, or the buttons could be used for hotkeys such as “new dictation”, “open correction window”, or “adopt text from dictation window”. The Digta SonicMic 3 is also equipped with an optical trackpad with which the user can navigate the screen. “This option has proven itself many times over in smartphones, and so we decided to use it as a control element,” Hollstein says. Digta SonicMic 3 users can activate the mouse button with the trigger button on the back side of the microphone or with the left and right mouse buttons next to the trackpad if they choose.

An additional advantage is that the special housing shape of both microphones allows sufficient air circulation for the devices to be held comfortably even during long dictations. Their roughened surfaces make them especially easy to grip, and they lie comfortably in the hand.

Why Digital Dictation?

As technology evolves and businesses expand, organizations are constantly seeking out new ways to improve efficiency, cut costs and still maintain a high quality of work. Dictation has always played a key part in this role, but tape-based recording (analogue) has rapidly become an obsolete format and pioneering manufacturers such as Olympus have had to develop smarter, more flexible products that can cater for digital media and the various methods of transferring content to users around the world. The solution to this issue - digital dictation from Olympus.

Sound Quality
Digital dictation uses advanced audio codecs and higher quality microphones to produce a higher sound quality. The lack of moving parts found in analogue devices means that background noise is heavily reduced. Olympus utilize the Digital Speech Standard (DSS / DS2) for digital recordings, this format is specifically designed for dictation and produces extremely high quality audio.

Cost Saving Battery Life
Olympus Professional Dictation products are supplied with advanced rechargeable batteries that provide significant cost savings over time compared to devices that use standard AAA alkaline batteries.

Higher Security
Security is a growing concern for organizations and individuals alike. In order to deliver the highest possible security, Olympus offer a range of recorders and software capable of encrypting dictations with 256 bit AES encryption. Portable devices can also be locked with a four digit PIN code.

Increased Recording Time
Olympus devices make use of flash storage such as SD and MicroSD, because of this they can store hours worth of dictation on a single card. As the recordings are transferred from the device to the PC, the recording time is essentially limitless with no need for expensive cassettes.

Digital Dictation is more Organized
By using an Olympus professional recorder with the included software, it is now easy to locate specific dictations quickly. The built-in search and organization features make dictations more accessible than ever, and take up no physical storage space.

Olympus’ line of RecMic USB microphones provide radiologists and other medical professionals with a cost-efficient, reliable and secure alternative to typing or using low-quality digital voice recorders.

Capable of tight integration with leading EMR/PACS software suites, RecMic USB microphones are the ideal choice for any user where streamlined, accurate data entry is a priority. Forget hours of typing; with RecMic, radiologists simply speak and watch the words appear.

Superior Audio Quality.

RecMic USB microphones are meticulously engineered to provide the best possible audio quality – a key factor in the accuracy of voice recognition software and EMR/PACS integration.

All three RecMic models feature professional-quality microphones that automatically filter out background noise with a higher signal-to-noise ratio than competitive models. This is accomplished through the use of uni-directional mic technology, which ensures that only users’ words – and not traffic or hallway chatter – is captured.

In addition, RecMic microphones are designed to capture the entire spectrum of human speech. Competitors’ models, by contrast, are designed to perform best when users speak very loud and very slow. RecMic lets you speak naturally.

A Reputation for Reliability

Olympus has been producing the world’s most reliable professional dictation products for decades – and RecMic is no exception. Even the integrated USB cable is state-of-the-art; it’s been lab-tested to function normally after 80,000 test cycles … nearly twice as many as competitive models.

The RecMic DR-2300’s precise slide switch control is even more durable – proven to function normally after 360,000 test cycles. The competitor’s starts to break down after only 30,000.
Radiologists and medical office staff have a lot of data to record. That’s why RecMic USB microphones are designed to be easy to use for hours and hours.

RecMic’s ergonomic features are unmatched. From a place to rest your index finger and a comfortable grip to a large trackball, nothing has been overlooked.

The microphones’ controls can be configured to meet the needs of any user. It’s easy to choose between left- and right-handed configurations, or to map different commands to different buttons. And it can all be done device by device, or by a centralized IT administrator.
